DOVE, John. Wild Thing. Wonder Workshop, 1971. Original design t-shirt. One of the earliest punk t-shirts and the first global t-shirt success. Its success launched rhinestones as a major t-shirt fashion Dove had earlier designed and sold Iggy Pop the leather jacket he wore on the Raw Power album (The jacket was later acquired by Stan Lee of The Dickies and worn by him for a Rolling Stone photo-shoot). This t-shirt was based on the Iggy Jacket but modified with the lettering ’Wild Thing’ as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The t-shirt would emblazon the chests of a decade of Rock’N’Roll rebels from Marc Bolan to Sid Vicious. Francois Truffaut also used the T-shirt on Jaqueline Bisset in shooting “Day For Night”. A fine copy of one of the most pirated t-shirts of all time. A historical, and important fashion item. $2000
